Further to my previous post, I have expanded the sample to include the smaller universities that are members of the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada. Again, the table records whether the school has signed a licence with Access Copyright, whether an updated fair dealing policy is available on the web site, whether such policy is based on AUCC’s policy, and whether the school’s web site includes the AUCC’s guidelines for applying the fair dealing policy.

 

In some cases an AUCC member may be affiliated with a larger university and is subject to the same copyright licences and policies; I have not included these in the list. There are, however, two instances of AUCC members (Nova Scotia Agricultural College and St. Thomas University) having signed the Access Copyright licence despite being affiliated with a larger university (Dalhousie University and University of New Brunswick) that had not signed the licence. This is reflected in the table below.

Immediately it can be seen that far more of the smaller institutions have signed with Access Copyright (20 out of 24, or 83 percent). More than half of the schools either do not have an updated fair dealing policy, or it is unclear whether there is a policy available. Of those that do have updated fair dealing policies available, 65 percent have adapted them from the AUCC’s policy, but only 10 percent have so far included links to the application guidelines.
